Moving Boundaries: Human Sciences and the Future of Architecture and Lighting Design
The fourth edition of Moving Boundaries: Human Sciences and the Future of Architecture, is an intensive 12-day course and conference, which will take place in Stockholm, Sweden from August 12-20 and then will move to Helsinki, Finland on 21-23 August. In Stockholm the course will be hosted by KTH Architecture/Division of Architectural Lighting Design and Konstfack - University of Arts, Crafts and Design.
It will be taught by 26 international experts from multiple disciplines and attended by over 120 participants and students from 40 countries. The course focuses on diverse topics, at the interface between disciplines concerned with the design of the built environment and the scientific disciplines concerned with human perception and behavior, namely neuroscience, neurophenomenology, cognitive science, sociology, anthropology, environmental psychology, health sciences, and others.
Topics to be covered during this 12-day event include: multisensory perception in architecture and design, architectural ambiance and mood, special qualities of Nordic light and darkness relating to human health, sleep and circadian rhythms, stress and arousal, ecology and restorative environments - all with the central goal of teaching designers and urban planners how they may design for human and environmental health and wellbeing.
