Light Symposium 2023

Architecture Lighting Environments: Space With(Out) Light.

The “Light Symposium Stockholm 2023” took place at the Architecture building, KTH main campus, between 3 - 6 December 2023. The last day was designated for networking at “Konstfack – University of Arts, Crafts and Design” in collaboration with the Perception Studio.

The conference program was structured around three invited keynote speakers, 14 presentations and 20 posters, all selected based on the peer-review paper submission.

About Light Symposium

Light Symposium (LS) is a yearly event involving the collaboration of four international universities and their partners, Hochschule Wismar in Germany, AAU Copenhagen in Denmark, USN Kongsberg in Norway, and KTH in Sweden. As the event coordination and location alternates amongst the four partners, the next “Light Symposium 2024” will be in Kongsberg, Norway between 21 – 22 October 2024.

Keynote speakers

Paloma Design Studio - Lighting designers from Stockholm

Prof. Dr. Manuel Spitschan - Professor in chronobiology and health at the School of Medicine and Health, Technical University of Munich

teamLab Architects Inc.: Shogo Kawata (河田将吾), Raghuram Venkatesan - Architectural firm focused on coexistence of the digital and the real world.

The 14 speakers and the 20 poster presenters were researchers and practitioners in the lighting field around the world, including representatives from the lighting manufacturing industry. All presenters’ bios.

All presentations and posters were related to the four thematic clusters below:

  • Variability and Rhythmicity
  • Designing for Darkness
  • Sensory and Spatial Perceptions
  • Light and Health for all Species

The symposium was attended by 230 persons, mainly from Sweden and the Nordics but also from overseas. The attendees had the chance to vote for their favorite presentation and poster. In parallel, there was a student competition among all the presentations and posters. The scientific committee decided the winner, who was invited to be a keynote speaker at the LEDForum 2024 in São Paulo .

All papers will be published at the IOP Publishing- Environmental Research Series.
