Why did you choose to work and teach within Wireless Systems?

– Well, Wireless Systems just looked fancy when I took it up as my career. Fortunately, it turned out to be a good choice since wireless services have become indispensable part of our lives. There are still many challenges to be addressed in this field. After years of research experience, I’ve got more interested in teaching. It is a fascinating way of contributing to society. I can produce hundred times of my own capability if I turn hundred students into capable engineers.

Where did you study and work before coming to KTH?

– I studied at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Korea, both undergraduate and graduate schools, and obtained my PhD degree in 2005. Between 2005 and 2007, I worked at Samsung Electronics, where I participated in the development and commercialization of the Mobile WiMAX system. Then, I moved back to academia. In 2008, I was at the University of Edinburgh, UK, as a post-doc. After that I joined KTH in 2009.

What is the most challenging thing about teaching at a university today?

– Diversity! Both in terms of students and subjects. This is the time of interdisciplinary studies where everything changes very fast. The teachers of today need to deal with students with diverse backgrounds. At the same time, they need to teach cutting-edge topics to the students while not losing the fundamental principles.
