A wireless community
A new community website has seen the light of day. It is The Unwired People - an open community for wireless researchers, practicing engineers and others. The community web will provide a number of things concerning wireless and mobile communication. Check out the latest trends and tech gossip. Discuss research and technical problems. And share opinions on various phenomena in the world of Wireless and Mobile Services.
Most things can be found on the web. Interest groups – however small – will find their community. But strangely enough there is no website for the large, exciting AND growing area wireless communication - even though our society is so dependent on wireless and mobile communication solutions. This is where the new website The Unwired People comes in. The forum is independent and without any commercial interests.
The initiative for the new community web comes from the research center Wireless@KTH and director Jens Zander, Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.
“In order to stay competitive in the wireless research community, we need to be involved in an open and fast-moving debate on “what’s hot and what’s not”, Professor Jens Zander explains. “The Unwired People is a complement to traditional meeting fora like conferences and journals which have very long lead times.”
A place for all
The Unwired People community site provides useful information such as news, featured articles and educational material from leading wireless researchers. The space can be used for personal blogs, for discussions on various topics and for technical and research questions!
Community Manager Maria Hägglöf is ready to help with any questions or practical issues regarding The Unwired People. The graphical user interface makes it very easy to publish a piece of information, documents and other media files.
“We hope to attract contributions from many different user groups so any kind of topic may be relevant,” Maria Hägglöf explains. “But there is also a challenge. We want the researchers and engineers to become more social online because we believe that there is a great value in sharing knowledge and experiences.”
The Unwired People has been up and running just for a month, and it is too early to say if it is successful. But there is an increase in the number of visitors to the site, and there are more contributions.
