Crosscuts, the environmental humanities film festival at KTH Environmental Humanities Laboratory, will again occur at KTH on 6-7 November. The festival's fourth edition explores forests and our many diverse relationships with them.

Crosscut's Environmental Humanities Festival for Film & Text is a documentary film festival that screens films on various topics and perspectives. In previous years, topics have included deep sea mining, the environmental disaster in the Aral Sea, Sami culture, and how to become an environmental activist. The films are followed by in-depth panel discussions between researchers, film directors, artists, and activists. In addition to the panel discussions, the festival is often mixed with other cultural and artistic expressions.

This year, Crosscuts will explore forests. We will highlight the challenges forests face and discuss what forests mean to us in a broader sense. We also see that the discussions on forests are becoming more visible, and we want Crosscuts to become an additional voice to the broader societal discussion about forests, next to initiatives such as KTH Library’s exhibition “From Trees to Technology- Exploring Forest-Based Materials “ , KTH centre Navet’s , that are also part of the recently opened Tekniska Musuem’s big exhibition on forests , and Nordiska Musuem’s current Forest Lab series.

"The 2022 festival was a very emotional experience. The festival is very much appreciated by the audience, who always give generous criticism afterwards. Even the panellists often get in touch and say it was interesting and fun to discuss with people from disciplines they would not otherwise meet," says Sofia Jonsson, co-founder of the festival and administrative group manager at the Division of History of Science, Technology and Environment.
