3 Tips For a Successful Application

Hej everyone! Welcome to this new post. The journey to becoming a KTH student begins with your application, and making it shine can be a game-changer. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through my application tips that will help you stand out from the crowd and and get you one step closer to securing your spot at KTH.

How pretty is the E building this time of year?!?!

Tip 1: Start Early

Embarking on your KTH application journey should begin well in advance. Here’s why getting a head start is crucial:

a. Reference Letters and Document Translations: Don’t underestimate the time required for gathering reference letters from professors or employers and translating your academic documents. KTH typically expects two academic reference letters. Be sure to choose individuals who can provide a meaningful insight into your qualifications and potential. Additionally, make sure your transcripts and certificates are accurately translated if they are not in English.

b. Meeting Deadlines: KTH has strict application deadlines. By starting early, you can submit your application well before the due date (15 January). This not only alleviates stress but also allows you ample time for review and revisions. *Remember documents can be submitted after your application is submitted. The due date to submit your documents is 1 February.

Tip 2: Match the Programme Requirements

KTH offers a diverse range of programmes, each with unique prerequisites and expectations. Of course, you may be interested in more than one programme but it is important to remember that you will only be offered a place in one programme, which is also due to the fact that there are limited spots in each programme. To ensure your application aligns perfectly with your chosen programme, follow these steps:

a. Understand Admission Requirements: Carefully review the admission requirements for your specific programme, available on the programme’s webpage.

b. Customise Your Application: Your application materials should reflect how well you meet the programme’s requirements. Highlight your academic achievements, relevant coursework, and experience that demonstrates your suitability for the programme.

c. Reinforce Your Motivation Letter and Summary Sheet: The motivation letter is a vital part of your application, offering a chance to convey why you’re the perfect candidate for the programme.

Tip 3. Allow Your Personality to Shine Through

Beyond academic qualifications, there is often value to students who bring unique experiences and a dynamic personality to campus. Don’t hesitate to let your individuality shine through:

a. Share Your Interests and Experiences: It’s always interesting to know who you are outside the classroom. Are you passionate about certain activities? Have you had cool and transformative experiences? Include these in your application to help the admissions officers get to know the real you.

b. Highlight What Makes You Unique: Use your application to showcase what makes you stand out from the crowd. Maybe it’s an extraordinary hobby, a community project you initiated, or a personal experience that shaped your goals. These elements can differentiate you and demonstrate your potential contributions to the KTH community.

Overall, by starting early, tailoring your application to meet programme requirements, and allowing your personality to shine through, you can create a holistic application that is attractive to the admissions committee. Remember to check KTH’s website for specific programme details and deadlines and, if needed, reach out to student ambassadors, University Admissions or info@kth.se for guidance. I wish you the best of luck with your application!

  1. What is a summary sheet, while applying as an international student for masters at KTH.

    1. Hej! A summary sheet is a form that you will have to fill out as part of an application that includes courses that you have taken in your bachelor that are related to the master you are applying to. The summary sheet is only required for some programmes. Please check entry requirements for the programme that you are applying to see if you need to submit a summary sheet.
