Hello, everyone behind the screen! Stockholm is so colourful in the summer! I wish you were here! If you have a chance to arrive at the beginning of August, you will experience the city in so many colours! There is so much to do here! I will touch upon a few activities that are free or low-cost!
Exploring the city
Since we just graduated, we finally have time to enjoy Stockholm in a relaxed way. When the days are long, the sun sets late, and all the people look beautiful, Stockholm does not sleep. The streets are buzzing! The streets of Stockholm are full of giggling, laughing, smiles, smells and sounds! It’s beautiful to see everyone happy, chatting with a cup of coffee while enjoying the sun under the tree canopies.
Strolling through the old streets of Stockholm and discovering new places is one of my favourite activities. I grab my camera, sometimes a friend or two, and on the way to explore the city!
Open house in City Hall
This weekend my friends decided to do barbeque in one of the parks of Södermalm with a panoramic view of Stockholm! Surprisingly, we were lucky to see sailing boats cruising!
This year the city hall celebrates 100 years and organising many free events for the people of Stockholm! When the City Hall was inaugurated in 1923, a City Hall regatta (boat competition) was organized for archipelago cruisers and other wooden boats on Riddarfjärden. This year, the sailing tradition was recreated! Old and new boats competed in the race, while some were from 1923 and still sailing!
The city hall organises more free events and tours inside the hall this week to celebrate its birthday. I will try to get to the top of the city hall tower and discover a panoramic view of Stockholm!
Nature&hiking
Summer is the time here when everything is blooming and nature comes to life! Hiking through the national parks between forests and lakes is a way to rest your mind and recharge. The city has many coastlines that is accessible for the public and offers panoramic views to enjoy sunsets with your friends. Usually, we pack up snacks, some board games and find a spot for a picnic. Some even dip into water to refresh themselves!
There are so many activities from canooing, kayaking, rock climbing, padel courts and much more! You can stay active but also exercise in a fun way!
My friend, Gabriele, took me to climbing gym in the old gas factory that was restored recently and converted into community hub full of activities, restaurants and places for fun! It’s called gasverket and I would definitely recommend to check it out!
I am still processing the fact that I have graduated and I am free as a bird! It feels liberating and excited where I will land! I would love to stay in Stockholm and hopefully settle in! Let’s see what the future will hold.
Hopefully you kicked off your summer in a great way and enjoying it wherever you are in the world. Lorenzo has shared his summer plans and feelings in his blog post too!
Have a lovely day.
